Benefits*: There's shea butter (Vitellaria paradoxa), previously known as Butyrospermum parkii, from West Africa and then there's shea butter (Vitellaria nilotica) from the east African countries of Uganda and the Sudan.  Shea butter from West Africa is the most common in the US markets. 

The less common shea butter, Vitellaria nilotica, is divine.  It contains higher proportions of skin enhancing oleic and linoleic fatty acids, anti-oxidants and cinneamic acid (natural sunscreen). 

Shea nilotica has a light texture and is semi-solid at room temperature.  This makes it easier to apply to the skin and hair.  Used regularly, your skin will feel like silk.  It also makes a fantastic hair pomade and treatment especially for dry or frizzy hair.

We offer Shea nilotica in its natural state - no fragrance and no additives.  Our Shea nilotica is organic and certified Fair Trade.  It's sourced from a women's cooperative in Northern Uganda that pays them a living wage and provides these women and their familes safe harbor from the brutalities of military actions.  

Shea nilotica is cold-pressed without any chemicals and filtered into sterile containers for worldwide shipments.  We don't subject the natural product to any additional processing other than gently heating it for packaging.

Fragrance:  Fragrance Free.  Natural shea butter has a slight nutty fragrance.

How to use: Dip a finger into the shea butter and spread it on your skin.  It glides on very easily.  In warm weather, Shea nilotica may become semi-liquid.  If this happens, store it in the refrigerator.  Keep away from direct sunlight.
